Let loose the Dogs of War
It seems Xiaxue, the country's resident Girl Next Door (read: mediawhore) is going to be featured in the Sunday Times again tomorrow.
I have no objection to this, really. Who the media chooses to glamourise is none of my business; I just wish they'd pick someone who can actually write. But that wouldn't earn them readership, would it? Cynical world we live in.
And I have to give credit where it's due. I was glad to see xiaxue do her piece about bone marrow donation. Although having come to know her a little better than the average rabid fan, and being an utter and complete cynic, I have to question her motives. Is this to seek redemption for her previous acts of utter childishness and vindictiveness? Or is it heartfelt. I hope it's the latter. Maybe she will learn eventually that with authority comes the burden of responsibility.
Maybe our leaders will learn that as well, one day.
Maybe I should stop shooting my mouth off... I am coming home soon. gack.

If life was a Channel 8 drama serial or maybe a Hillary Duff teen movie, Re-minscence and Xiaxue would meet in real life and against all odds: the great intellectual, philosophical, mental, and (dare I say it?) the class divide, fall in love, marry and live happily ever after.

Xiaxue's criticisms of "non-patriotic Singaporeans" are silly, ineffectual and shallow. I do agree with the theory behind it (i.e. non-patriotic people deserve to be shot), but that is all.
I think Re-minscence presents a far more scrupulous argument.

Thank you for the thought Alithiel, but re-minisce, unlike the rest of the country is highly selective. And to do anything quite as nightmarishly unthinkable as to fall in love with xiaxue would dishonour my memory of the Her I mention every now and then. It would destroy what little meaning I have left in this life.
I will confess that I've had (little-publicised) email exchanges with Xiaxue.
I don't hate xiaxue, the way her own self-made hate-site claims to. (Eccentric Eddy, by the way, is really Xiaxue. She wrote as much, when she started the blog. It screams attention seeker all over it, when she has to come up with her own hate site. Funny? Yes, I suppose. In a sad little way.)
I am, however, extremely tired of her.
So I'm a little ashamed that I'm doing this, as mean-spirited and unethical as it seems to me. But I just can't abide with ass licking, and I'm so, so tired of the nation licking Xiaxue's doubtlessly, by this time, gleamingly clean butt. And I'm sure I'm going to earn the wrath of her endless legion of adoring fans. And the media is probably going to hate me as well for debunking the myths around their precious darling. But (deep breath) here goes. Let Truth prevail.
